My basic philosophy goes something like this: I believe that the food we eat has the power to influence how we feel physically, and also has a profound effect on our mental health and happiness. I believe in the value of eating fresh, whole food on a regular basis, certainly, but I also believe it is important to eat ice cream, pizza, and croissants, and to truly enjoy what you eat. The media tells us so many conflicting things about what is "healthy" and "unhealthy", and when it comes down to it, food is so much more than it's nutrient content. The true value of food comes in how it makes us feel, both physically and psychologically.
My goal is to help all of my clients to truly appreciate their unique bodies and the incredible things they can do. And when it comes to food, to help them learn how to best fuel and nourish their bodies, using an approach that is intuitive, rather than rigid or restrictive. I also do my best to help them to create plans that are practical and work with the demands of everyday life and/or specific performance goals.
Professionally, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Spanish at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where I also ran competitively for four years. I got my Master's degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota in 2013, and completed my Dietetic Internship through the U of MN + The Emily Program after that. I now live in St. Paul, (still) love to run loops on the river, and feel so lucky to live in these cities that are so full of green space, incredible food and beer, and just the greatest people.
